The polished brass plaque to the front reads Thomas Gainsborough 1727-1788 and there is a polished brass plaque under the base which reads Modelled by Gainsborough 1746 owned by John Constable (1776-1837) Cast 1976. There is a Morris Singer Foundry, London, stamp on the base and it is numbered 8/500.
